Briefing Paper on Site C12

Save The Blean Action Group continues to track developments regarding site C12 in the draft Local Plan to 2040. In the autumn, we complied this briefing paper to summarise critical feedback gathered during the Regulation 18 consultation that took place March-June 2024.

This document aimed to consolidate and highlight the primary concerns from statutory agencies, local organisations and community groups, covering issues such as transport infrastructure, access, heritage impact, environmental effects, biodiversity impacts, and the capacity of local services. The purpose of the paper was to provide an accessible summary of the significant concerns surrounding site C12 – as well as the very worrying level of pressure being exerted by the University of Kent in trying to use its financial difficulties to justify this site.

We have sent this document to all Canterbury City Councillors, and by outlining these issues we hope to assist them in considering the potential impacts on our communities and district, and help them make informed decisions as the planning process progresses.

As a group it has been, and will continue to be, very important to us that we work collaboratively with all of our stakeholders including Canterbury City Council, Parish Councils, Kent Wildlife Trust, RSPB as well as the University of Kent to address our respective interests of sustainable development, community welfare and environmental protection.
